Scientific name: Cordia Subcordata

Hawaiian Name: Kou

This medium tree produces  has a softwood that contains beautiful grains and was used for bowls and dishes because it left no aftertaste. This plant is commonly found in parks and is provides solid shade. Initially this plant was believed to be Polynesian introduced, but recently fossil evidence proved it’s existence before human arrival. Be sure not to confuse this plant with the west indies( non native)Geiger tree.
